China, one of the world’s most polluting countries with traditional values, is waking up to a new era: life in blue… The traditional Mao suit is reused and transformed into a fashion suit. The people are yearning for freedom and peace. Between tradition, modernity and serenity, the cut was asymmetrical, the hair was washed and the bangs were long or short.

Assembled from second-hand clothes, we have fun, we dress up, respecting sustainable development and craftsmanship rediscovered with greater ecological awareness. We’re going back to something simpler: jeans and three T-shirts. But the important thing is to be different, to have fun and to exist socially, so we’re all inventing our own fashions. A severe or badly cut fringe, a wispy bob, a faded pastel blue hair colour…

Dramatic mix of the Moulin Rouge Muse, showcasing a balance between structure and fluidity. Cuts feature static, sculptural shapes contrasted with expressive silhouettes, using multi-layering techniques to create a sense ofenergy, lightness, and an undone modern edge. The “Diablo” hair collection draws its inspiration from a myriad of powerful sources, all converging to create a bold and rebellious statement. Central to our collection is the concept embodied by “Diablo” – a symbol of audacity, untamed energy, and defiant confidence. This collection is a tribute to the daring, the unconventional, and the fiercely independent, mirroring the qualities typically associated with this potent symbol.

Diablo collection also finds inspiration in futuristic aesthetics, channeling a vision of the world that is not only technologically advanced but also fearlessly embraces its sensuality. The incorporation of chrome metal alloy face pieces speaks to this inspiration, marrying the industrial with the organic, the modern with the primal.

Simultaneously, the vibrant color palette, especially the choice of red for the bodysuits, stockings, and gloves, reflects the symbolic richness associated with “Diablo” and the color’s ties to passion, desire, and power. The strategic hair textures and shapes bring in an element of the unexpected, much like the unpredictable spirit of our collection’s namesake.

In essence, the “Diablo” collection pays homage to the free-spirited, to those unafraid to challenge the norm, to those who revel in their individuality. This collection is really special to me as I drew most of my inspiration from navigating my own journey over the last 2 years into becoming a mother for the second time.  I used the idea of going from night to day to symbolise a journey of my own strength and empowerment.  I show this using my choices of colour through the collection, opting for tones of deep sunrises and bright sunsets as well as black and white to represent the night and the day.  I wanted to show how each look could be impactful, even with an element of softness and femininity, much like our journey through matrescence.   Relating to this idea, I took inspiration from different matriarchal notions, such as my hat look nodding towards a regal, royal character.  Then both my braided and bun looks paying ode to tribal characters.  Both represent women in their power.

An environmental champion, Anne Veck challenges herself and the hair
industry to face up to the uncomfortable truth of the destructive reality of out consumer world. Shot in a scrapyard, each image illustrates the eco-impact of key industries – textiles, fashion, and hair and their over use of plastic, landfill waste and environmental pollution. She has also used the opportunity to highlight the impact of unsustainable food production and fishing. Combining her creative skills with genuine discarded plastic, metal, fishing line and paint, Toxic Fashion aims to draw attention to the reality of consumer fashion and the need to create a more sustainable industry.

My new collection Sisters of Shalati was inspired by a visit to South Africa where I learnt about the warrior queen or Hosikati of the Tsonga tribe, Queen Shalati. According to oral tradition, she was no ordinary woman and when her clan was under threat, she would be the first to pickup her war axe and organise the defence of her people. My models and their looks epitomise feminine strength and determination, expressed through a diverse selection of action focussed textured hair styles, incorporating twists, braids, ponytails, hairpieces and wigs.
