Inspiration

My collection, BELONGING, was inspired by our multi cultural nation, living peacefully together, regardless of race, nationality, skin colour and hair texture.

As a mixed race person, i’ve always realised that my appearance was a little different. Back in the 80’s there was very little education available to parents of mixed race kids with regards to hair care. This prompted me to notice haircuts and styles from a young age. Marking the start on my journey in the world of hairdressing. It’s since become an industry where i belong. An industry where there’s a possible educated answer to the questions of every individual, regardless of hair texture. The multi textured world of hair is beautiful and we should make sure that, as hairdressers, we strive to gain the knowledge to work with all hair types. That we build an industry where everyone BELONGS.

This collection is about a fusion of ethics, style, and sustainability. Reflecting where the industry is heading — fast-moving, tech-driven, and still rooted in the craft of hairdressing  

Blend reimagines hair using innovative materials that feel real, literal embodiment of adding something new and blending it into something existing. This is where craft meets conscience. This collection explores new methods and materials…….

Spectrum

Spectrum is a collection I created to truly represent me. It reflects the kind of work I love to do day in, day out: real, wearable, client-focused looks that still packs a punch creatively. This collection is full of personality, purpose, and colour that moves with confidence.

It’s modern, expressive, and effortlessly bold Spectrum is my signature work, styled with intention and finished with flair. a real reflection of who I am behind the chair.

The Pulse collection embodies energy, rhythm, and the life force that beats within us all. The inspiration for the collection revolves around the concept of the “Rhythm of Life,” blending the dynamism of the modern world, natural cycles, and the inner energy of individuals.

INSPIRATION

Aetheria was inspired by the rebellious spirit of designers like Margiela, Gaultier, Westwood, and McQueen – reimagined in a world without gravity, rules, or structure. The collection plays with sculptural silhouettes, weightless textures, and metallic tones that feel both otherworldly and beautiful. Each look is designed to feel like it’s caught mid-transformation, reflecting movement, tension, and the power of imperfection. It’s a space where fashion meets fantasy and individuality can exist without limits

INSPIRATION

Clique draws inspiration from the iconic high school films of the 1980s, particularly the work of director John Hughes.  The concept was built around the idea of classic school photo day — awkward, over-styled, and totally unforgettable.  Each look is a nod to the exaggerated stereotypes and cliques that defined teenage life in that era — from the jock to the rebel, the nerd to the misfit.  I wanted the shoot to feel nostalgic, playful, and tongue-in-cheek. Capturing the awkward time period in our life that is teenagehood.

INSPIRATION
Echosphere collection Shae & Chris Tsiknaris_Tsiknaris Hair
Echosphere is a celebration of energy, individuality, and the visual echoes we create through colour, shape, and texture. Inspired by the layered patterns of nature, sound waves, and cultural self-expression, this collection brings together bold colour, sculptural forms, and dynamic movement — each look becoming an echo of the wearer’s inner vibrancy.

Set against a high-impact backdrop, Echosphere radiates with unapologetic joy and creative freedom — an ode to hair as a medium of visual resonance and personal identity.

Artistic Inspiration
The collection draws on:

Botanical Diversity — rich colour palettes inspired by exotic flowers, plants, and corals

Textural Play — curls, waves, and sculpted cuts mimic organic forms and natural motion

Modern Tribalism — a nod to body art, tattoos, and self-expression as part of our personal ecosystem

Graphic Colour Blocking & Line Work — precision colour used to echo nature’s own patterns, from butterfly wings to tropical birds

INSPIRATION

POS NEG by Elly Paynter

‘POS NEG‘ explores the dynamic relationship between positive and negative
space, interpreted through hair cutting and colour.
Inspired by the tension and harmony that exists between being present and being
absent, each look uses bold split tones, colour blocking, and dramatic shapes,
creating a juxtaposition between that positive and negative space.
Feature colours of red, orange, and blue are intermixed with anchor tones of black,
brown, and blonde to create structured voids and vibrant fills – transforming hair into
a living sculpture of artistic expression. The cutting techniques emphasize silhouette
and shadow, celebrating both the seen and the unseen with sharp edges and
deliberate spaces.
Colour and shape are manipulated to echo the rhythm of space – softer, more subtle
elements collide with texture and movement, while the overall aesthetic remains
editorial, edgy and vibrant, and predominantly high-impact.
Through this lens, hair becomes not just a medium of beauty, but a canvas of visual
storytelling, where absence is just as powerful as presence.


HAIR – Colour Inspiration
Working to the concept of negative and positive space, presence and absence, I was
inspired to create and work with a colour palette that reflected this, and
complemented the hair cuts.
Bold, feature colours of red, orange and blue were anchored by black, brown and
blonde hues with a combination of daring and subtle colour placement enhancing
and exaggerating the texture and movement within the styles.
Androgyny fused with femininity, strength melded with softness, dramatic shapes
were brought to life with split tones and colour blocking techniques to really
accentuate texture and impact the shape of the expertly crafted styles.

MAKEUP
For this shoot, skin was kept clean adhering to the brief of minimalist but high
impact.
The overall theme of movement, texture and juxtaposing positive and negative
space, was reflected in the eye makeup; this was deliberately messy and blurred.
Lips were defined with liner and were either impactful and bold, or left more natural.

STYLING
The extensive styling colour palette was composed of blues, greys, silvers, reds,
cream and white with varied textures and finishes – fluffy, metallic, rough and sheer.
Reflecting the overall feel of the shoot, we choose to layer the tonal outfits with bold
elements that blend beautifully with the elements and storytelling introduced
through the hair.

Photography
The initial brief for the shoot backdrop was muted blue, grey or cream, however we
opted for a muted pale blue which delivered cool warmth and allowed the hair cuts &
colour to shine.
An commercial yet editorial vibe was created using a combination of full/half body
images and profile shots which allowed the hairstylist and photographer to play with
lighting and contrasts.

The result was a slightly desaturated or mildly blurred editing style that created a
nostalgic, retro essence within the finished images.

INSPIRATION: UTOPIES 4045

The vision behind the Collection came from pure imagination- a magical world filled with peace and beauty .. UTOPIA

Inspired by nature, a fantasy dreamscape with a nod to an underwater otherworld.

I wanted to create a unique avant-garde collection which still possessed so much beauty.

After years of entering the State and Australian categories I realised, this year I wanted to create hair that I truly love to do , that’s why I decided on entering avant-garde .. I love the creative space it allows.

My goal was to go back to where I most enjoyed my work and shoot day , and I realised that shooting in WA without all that pressure is where I work best.

This Collection is me on a plate , I love beauty , I love eclectic , I love to create something slightly weird but still so mesmerising.

My other goal was to create an avant-garde collection purely using hair .. so yes every look is all created with hair.

INSPIRATION

Inspired by the creativity of David Bowie Ziggy Stardust, the vibrant energy of space disco, and the infinite mystery of the cosmos, this collection envisions hair as an extension of interstellar.

A cosmic fusion of galactic pinks, reds, deep purples, shimmering silvers, and nebula-inspired hues, reflecting the depth and vibrancy of the universe.  Holographic finishes, iridescent highlights, and metallic undertones add a multidimensional effect, enhancing the futuristic narrative.
