Hairdressers are being called on to join a team of specialist volunteers to help homeless people in London over the festive season as part of Crisis at Christmas. The scheme runs from Friday 23 December to Friday 30 December 2011. Up to nine temporary centres will be set up in London by Crisis, providing vital companionship and hot meals for homeless and vulnerably housed people as well as essential services like health checks housing advice, training and further education opportunities – and hairdressing. The salon service team will aim to boost the self-esteemm of guests by washing, cutting and blow-drying their hair, making them feel special and look fabulous. In 2010, volunteers gave more than 1,000 haircuts and more than 250 manicures to guests.
