Julian Crane, Schwarzkopf Professional General Manager UK and Ireland; Laura Husband, Editor Hairdressers Journal Magazine; Sophie Gibson, Jonathan Turner, and celebrity host Rylan Clark-Neal

Sophie Gibson and Jonathan Turner from Newcastle were named the UK’s best colour experts. The colourists from Hooker & Young won the coveted title of Schwarzkopf Professional Colour Technicianof the Year at HJ’s renowned British Hairdressing Awards 2019.

Sophie and Jonathan beat five other category finalists in the national awards, dubbed the ‘Oscars’ of the hair world, to claim the accolade of being the country’s leading and most inspiring hair colourist.

Now in their 34th year, HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards celebrate the people producing the very best hairdressing work across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Sophie and Jonathan’s prize was one of 18 trophy wins on the night in a line-up of ten regional and eight specialist awards, including two new categories of International Collection of the Year and Trend Image of the Year.

Headmasters is set to open a new London Academy in February 2020. For the first time in its history, it will teach its education programmes to the hairdressing industry. Entering its 38th year and with over 60 salons, Headmasters will offer courses to independent hairdressers and salons wanting to benefit from the expertise and hands on experience of the Headmasters creative team.

Led by Andrew Barton and creative ambassadors Gareth Williams, Jonathan Soons, Nicole Iroh, Alfie Pfeffer and Clare Hansford, the salon group aims to provide informative and inspiring education that can be taken straight back to the salon floor.

TOM CONNELL is the new Davines Art Director

He will play a leading role in creating photographic collections and training hairstylists, as well as appearing in hair shows across the globe.

ANGELO SEMINARA (ex Art Director for Davines) therefore leaves his position to a great creative.

TOM grew up in the salon owned by his parents who are both hairdressers. He transferred to LONDON to develop his expertise in styling and worked at Trevor Sorbie for the past 10 years and spent four of those years as Trevor Sorbie’s artistic director. Speaking about his creative process Tom said:

“I keep a document with me to write down things that catch my attention: an haircut, a piece of forniture, a film clip. Once a month, I read it and see a connection between all the elements and I develop all of my ideas from there.”

HOB Salons has been named as Best Salon Group at the Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s Luncheon & Award 2019, beating the best of business in the hairdressing industry.

Directors Akin Konizi, Clive Collins and Paul Simbler collected the award in front of their peers at a glittering lunch at the Intercontinental Hotel in London’s Park Lane. HOB Academy head of education, Jake Unger, also picked up the award for Snapshot Image of the Year with a beautiful copper style.

HOB Salons, which has some 25 salons and employs more than 480 team members, celebrated its 35th anniversary last year and adds these trophies to their collection of 60 other creative, business and international awards.

Akin said: “We are delighted to win the Salon Group award, which is for everyone that works for HOB Salons. We have some amazing people within the company and we are very proud they have been recognised for the work they do.”

Sally Brooks has been named Fellowship Hairdresser of the Year 2019 at a glittering lunch in London.

The Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s Luncheon & Awards was held at the Intercontinental Hotel on Park Lane and recognises the best of British hairdressers, who work tirelessly for the industry both creatively and in business.

Amongst a host of awards presented by President Ken Picton and Chancellor Ashleigh Hodges, was the ultimate accolade, Fellowship Hairdresser of the Year.

Sally, owner of Brooks & Brooks salon in Holborn, London, with Jamie Brooks, has won some 60 awards with her creative team including London Hairdresser of the Year three times and British Hairdresser of the Year 2017 and 2018. Sally collected her award to raptuous applause from the audience who included her friend and mentor, Trevor Sorbie.

“This is such a surprise but I’m delighted to be named Fellowship Hairdresser of the Year. It’s been an incredibly busy year which has included producing and directing my documentary, The Journey to My Destination. I have a lot of things planned for the industry in 2020 so watch this space!”

World renowned ‘Oscars’ of the hair world, HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards, took place on Monday night with 18 winners announced, and three inductions into the Hall of Fame.

Australia’s Jacky Chan, from Oscar Oscar Chadstone in Melbourne, took home the first ever International Collection of the Year crown.

The stylist beat five other category finalists from around the world to triumph in the UK awards, dubbed the ‘Oscars’ of the hair world. Jacky claimed the inaugural title of best internationally produced collection, beating competition from countries as far apart as the USA, the United Arab Emirates and Canada.

Each November, HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional, recognises the very best talent in the UK hairdressing industry.

The awards celebrate the stand-out styling stars across 18 categories in total, recognising achievement in both regional and specialist fields. For those lucky enough to win the same category on three separate occasions, a prestigious honour is bestowed; a place in the British Hairdressing Awards Hall of Fame. Once in the Hall of Fame, a hairdresser is no longer allowed to enter that category, having reached the very pinnacle of talent in that field.

ALTERNATIVE HAIR è uno show punta di diamante della coiffure internazionale grazie alla partecipazione dei migliori talenti creativi del mondo.

Il fantastico spettacolo di quest’anno è avvenuto presso la bellissima location dell’ICC ExCeL di Londra, di fronte ad un pubblico di 3.200 persone e raccogliendo ben £ 163.650 a favore della fondazione benefica FIGHTING LEUKEMIA.

In this 37th year, The Alternative Hair Show, entitled PARODY,
was held on 6th October at the magnificent ICC Auditorium ExCeL
in London.
Alternative Hair is an amazing celebration of the artistry,
creativity and passion of hairdressers from across the globe
and is both an inspirational and entertaining event.
The first part of the evening saw the finals of the
International Visionary Award, presented by Anthony Mascolo,
International President of Alternative Hair,
together with Alternative Hair founder, Tony Rizzo.
The Visionary Award has become a strong part of the evening
and this year’s finalists showed some incredibly detailed
and magnificent models, making the judging process extremely difficult.
Two shows were held over the evening raising a fantastic total:
more of £163,600 for the Alternative Hair Charitable Foundation:
FIGHTING LEUKAEMIA.

In questo 37esimo anno, l’Alternative Hair Show, intitolato PARODY,
si è tenuto il 6 Ottobre nel magnifico ICC Auditorium ExCeL a Londra.
L’Alternative Hair è una fantastica celebrazione del talento,
della creatività e della passione degli hairdressers provenienti da tutto il mondo e, al tempo stesso, un evento di grande
ispirazione e divertimento.
