Alternative Hair and Fighting Leukaemia are pleased to announce details of this year’s ALTERNATIVE HAIR SHOW.
Now in its 36th year, the ALTERNATIVE HAIR SHOW is recognised as the world’s most prestigious annual hairdressing event, hosting leading inspirational hairdressers and leading artistic teams from across the globe. Importantly, the participants come together to help raise vital funding for Fighting Leukaemia, supporting doctors, research scientists and children and families suffering from blood cancers. This year’s show brings a dazzling showcase of mystery and inspiration as the legendary artistic show teams translate the theme: Mystique.
In 2018, the Alternative Hair Show moves to the beautiful and mysterious Masonic Temple in the Freemasons’ Hall in London’s Covent Garden. The venue is the perfect façade for Mystique and is guaranteed to create an exciting, intimate atmosphere, allowing the audience to see every detail of the hair, make up and costumes whilst enjoying the performance.

The Global Rebellion collection is all about an unbounded, universal resistance to tradition and authority. It seeks to defy cultural stereotyping and even more deeply, to question the constructs of traditional hair styling in both shape and colour. The texture and movement within each of the images invites the viewer to experience the strength of the look while being made aware of the vulnerability that is inherent in non-conformity. The model may look ‘pretty in pink’ but the incongruence of the flat fringe and adjacent choppy, short pieces with the waves in the hair length give it an edge that reveals she may not be so pretty and helpless after all. And who says hair has to be short at the back or short at the front? Why not have both with choppy lengths in between in contrasting hues of blue? The softness and spring mixed with the complementary colours creates an allure greatly enhanced by her obvious individuality.
